Gym Christmas Check-in: December 21

Gym Christmas: Day 12+ * December 21, 2012

We arrived in Key West yesterday in the late afternoon after driving south from Miami. It took us around 5 hours, which included a stop in Marathon for a delicious sea-side lunch. We are staying at a nice resort on the southwest (more west than south) side of the key near the airport.

Driving to Key West feels like driving off the edge of the world. It was a really cool experience to be driving on bridges while surrounded by water for most of the trip yesterday. I was a little concerned about how I would feel during the trip since most of my nightmares involve losing control and plummeting to a watery death while driving on bridges surrounded by water. Thankfully for me and my passengers yesterday's drive in no way resembled my terrifying and "wet" dreams.

Here's where we are right now:

Bryn and I woke up this morning and went for a blustery 3.5 mile run from our resort to Smathers Beach and back. It is very windy and much cooler today than it was yesterday (or has been for the past week or so in Miami.) There were lots of people out with us walking, running, and biking.  I am excited to spend the rest of the day exploring Key West.  I hope to go in the ocean if things warm-up a bit.

My GYMGO card is now getting very full!

With today's "Socialcise," I claim my sixth GYMGO!

Are you finishing strong? What did you get up to today?

I walked 50 minutes to the Chapters and 50 minutes home, in sometimes deep slush. I wore my Sorels and rain gear, even though it was snowing, because the snow was so wet and it was about 0C. I got Michel Foucault's PhD thesis, "Madness and Civilization" for myself - a real treat! :-)

For Peter, I got Alain de Botton's "The Art of Travel" plus a small Moleskine notebook. I'm hoping he will enjoy the book as much as I will. :-p
